Prevention saves lives!
An otolaryngologist should be seen when discomfort in the ear, nose, or throat is experienced, thus interfering with the normal performance of day-to-day activities. The most common manifestations of this include:
- Ear: Constant earache, hearing loss, even if mild; incessant beeping and buzzing; inflammation of the inner ear, which may be a symptom of otitis interna; dizziness following certain movements, and even facial paralysis.
- Nose: Snoring, anosmia, regular and prolonged nosebleeds, a constant sensation of nasal obstruction and allergic reactions.
- Throat and neck: Swelling, difficulty swallowing, emergence of lumps, and swollen lymph nodes may be symptoms of tonsillitis and adenoid vegetations, which represent common diseases in children and cause recurrent infections and difficulty breathing and swallowing.
