In 2018, the prevalence of dementia was estimated at around 50 million people worldwide. It is projected that by 2050, there will be more than 131.5 million people. 1 in 10 people under 65 years of age has Alzheimer’s disease. In 2012, ENSANUT reported a prevalence of 6.9% for men and 9.1% for women.

Dementia prevention, intervention, and care: 2020 established: as goals to reduce cognitive decline: control blood pressure, use hearing aids for hearing loss, reduce alcohol consumption, prevent head injuries, quit smoking, reduce obesity and diabetes-related disease, and maintain physical activity in middle age and possibly in old age; Evidence suggests that vascular risk factors increase the risk of memory loss. There are genetic risk factors in two groups: late type (> 65 years) or early type (< 65 years). The first represents 95% of cases, sporadic type, the second represents 5 to 10% of cases, and of this only 1% corresponds to genetic factors.
